Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between RGB, HEX, and HSL?▼
All three represent the same colors, just differently. RGB (Red Green Blue): channels from 0–255. HEX: RGB expressed in base-16 (#RRGGBB). HSL (Hue Saturation Lightness): more intuitive — Hue 0–360° (color wheel), Saturation 0–100% (gray to full color), Lightness 0–100% (black to white). For design work, HSL is most intuitive because you can adjust saturation/lightness independently without affecting the color identity (hue).
How do I choose colors that work well together?▼
Color harmony rules: Complementary (opposite on color wheel): maximum contrast, high impact. Analogous (adjacent, 30° apart): harmonious, natural feel. Triadic (120° apart): balanced, vibrant. Monochromatic (same hue, different saturation/lightness): elegant, minimal. The 60-30-10 rule: 60% dominant color, 30% secondary, 10% accent. Use our Color Palette Generator for scheme-based palettes.
